Denton is a bustling North Texas town that is known for its spectacular live music scene, lively nightlife, gorgeous courthouse square, and its two major universities.

This is where Grammy-award winning musicians like Norah Jones and Don Henley honed their craft, a tradition that continues at the concert venues, bars, and clubs to this very day. Denton’s music scene alone makes it a great place to visit, but it’s not all this town has to offer.

Did you know?

Both the county and the town were named for John B. Denton, a preacher and lawyer who was killed in 1841 during a skirmish with the Kichai people in what is now Tarrant County. Pickneyville and Alton were selected as the county seat before Denton was named as the seat in 1857.

About Denton

The city of Denton was formed in 1857 to be the seat of Denton County, and its growth was largely influenced by its role as an agricultural trade center and the arrival of the railroad in the 1880’s.

What set Denton apart from other rural county seats was the establishment of the North Texas Normal College (now known as the University of North Texas) in 1890, and the founding of the Girls’ Industrial College (Texas Woman’s University) in 1901.

The presence of both colleges would have a profound impact on the town’s culture and economy that is still apparent to this day. You can learn all about its history by visiting the Courthouse Museum-on-the-Square, located on the first floor of Denton’s picturesque courthouse.

What does Denton have to offer?

Denton’s live music scene has been largely influenced by the colleges as well. After all, it was the Jazz Studies program at the UNT College of Music – the first of its kind in the nation – that has influenced numerous high-profile singers, songwriters, and composers. What does that mean for you?

It means that Denton is loaded with plenty of up-and-coming talented musicians, some of whom perform venues around town.

The best example of this is UNT’s famed One O’Clock Lab Band, a world-renowned jazz band that performs at the state-of-the-art Murchison Performing Arts Center. In addition to the standard weekend concerts, Denton also hosts a few of the top music festivals in North Texas, such as the Denton Arts & Jazz Festival and theDenton Blues Festival.

There’s a lot to do for families with kids that will keep the adults entertained, too! So many of Denton’s family-friendly attractions are located just a short drive from wherever you choose to stay, making your trip stress-free and fun for the whole family!

Explore Explorium Denton Children’s Museum, take a swim at Lake Ray Roberts, or plan a long weekend around one of our many family-friendly festivals.

What Our Clients Say

These guys did great. Very professional and courteous. Very hard workers and nothing was broken!

Moved a 1 bedroom apartment with the team at Dallas Movers this week. Very satisfies with the team: fast, knowledgeable and attentive to my furniture. Price was slightly higher than what I targetted, but with all the positive reviews here, I thought it was a safe choice. Why not 5 stars? The only minor aspects keeping my move from a \"perfect\" one were three very small dents on my media console (from bumping on the cart), on the dinner table´s leg, and on a bar stool. All too small to even bother repairing...

Wonderful experience with John, Frank and Justin! With pick up located at a 3rd story apartment (with no elevator) and a delivery to a 2/3rd floor location. They took care of all my furniture and treated them with upmost care. They were creative and persistent with getting a bed in a very difficult situation. I had given up, thinking there was no option but they didn\'t. I truly appreciate their hard work and great attitudes. If I move again (hopefully not for a really long time) I will surely go with Dallas Movers Pro!
